Melanie Martinez - Portals Tour Review
On Sunday, The Anthem in Washington D.C. welcomed the incredible Melanie Martinez for a sold-out show on the Portals Tour. Fans of all ages lined up around the venue dressed in beautiful Portals themed outfits, eagerly awaiting the night that was in store for them.
At around 8:30, the lights went low and a sea of cell phones could be seen in the air throughout the crowd as fans were anxious to see Martinez take the stage.
I have been a fan of Melanie Martinez since she was a contestant on The Voice in 2012. I've seen her growth throughout her entire career, but hadn't been able to see her perform live until now, so I was beyond excited to see what she had up her sleeve. The stage lit up and the crowd went wild as the lights revealed a beautifully decorated stage, packed with intricate details and wonderful visuals to add to the art of the performance. Screams and cheers could be heard from all around as Martinez took the stage along with their band and dancers.
The set consisted of Melanie Martinez's most recent album PORTALS (DELUXE) in full, beginning with songs "DEATH" and "VOID". Martinez's stunning vocals rang through the venue, and looks of pure awe and admiration could be seen on each concert-goers face (including mine!) as the performance started off strong with beautiful choreography.
This performance was a true work of art, as the ethereal visuals and costuming blended perfectly with the aesthetics and sound of the album. As she continued her set, the visuals on stage changed to match each song. Energy soared during the middle of the performance as the crowd sang along to "SPIDER WEB", "LEECHES", "BATTLE OF THE LARYNX", and "THE CONTORTIONIST"
As it neared the end of the set, the energy did not slow down. During "WOMB", the atmosphere was electric as the burst of giant confetti canons filled the air with delicate butterflies, leading Martinez into their encore for the night!
The performance ended with intricately choreographed performances to "POWDER", "PLUTO", and "MILK OF THE SIREN". Crying fans could be seen shedding tears of happiness due to their love for Melanie Martinez, and the atmosphere created by both those on stage and those in the audience was indescribable. After watching the growth and development of Melanie Martinez for the past 11 years, and having so much love for their art myself, I was beyond impressed by this performance. The Portals Tour is without a doubt a show you do not want to miss!
